This is hard to believe, but 22-year-old Carlos Gomez is well on his way to making the Twins' trade of Johan Santana a successful one. Hitting for the cycle Wednesday night at U.S. Cellular Field was the crowning achievement in an impressive start for Gomez.

A night earlier, the White Sox's Nick Swisher had said the Twins weren't missing Torii Hunter because they have "this guy named Gomez" who might be better than Hunter. Gomez entered the weekend hitting .279 with two home runs, 13 stolen bases and 19 runs scored.
