IEEE Spectrum and Qmags Team-up for iPad Application.

IEEE Spectrum and Qmags have launched an iPad application that reproduces in replica format all of the deep content and rich graphics of Spectrum's print edition on the iPad's big beautiful Multi-Touch screen. The app delivers a digital newsstand that includes the current issue (and for members only) an issue archive back to July 2007. Non members can purchase a single issue or annual subscription. Once an issue is downloaded it takes advantage of the iPad's unique technology: pages can be swiped to turn forward or backwards, and tapped or pinched to zoom in or out. Single issues or groups of issues can be keyword searched. Navigation tools and live URL links move readers quickly around the magazine and between the magazine and the Internet.

"Normally ahead of the technology curve, our readers were requesting that they be able to store and read their issues of Spectrum on their iPads," stated IEEE Media Staff Director and Publisher of IEEE Spectrum James Vick. "Our digital magazine partner Qmags built the app for us and manages the backend of the business. Readers are migrating over to their iPads as the first place they pick up Spectrum, and early feedback has been quite positive."

"Already a Qmags client, we were excited when IEEE Spectrum came to us with this project," said Qmags President and CEO Daniel Schwartz. "It made perfect sense for us to build the Spectrum app and integrate it with the delivery system that was already in place for their digital editions. The iPad is the perfect place for print magazine publishers to grow the digital portion of their readership."

The IEEE Spectrum Magazine branded app is available from the App Store on iPad or itunes.com/appstore.
